The last line holds or the city falls

HORDEWALL is a tower defense game set in a zombie apocalypse, built on Unreal Engine 5. Players build defenses along the roads into their base, call in bombers, and hold back hordes of hundreds of zombies, armour, aircraft and a 30-metre mega-mutant.

Every map has its own event on the B key: collapse a leaning skyscraper onto the horde, break the ice road under a convoy, wake a volcano, pour burning tar from castle walls, flood the valley from a dam. Houses fall to the bombs, day turns to night during the battle, and the weather changes.

The zombies move with motion-captured gaits: they shamble, limp, drag a leg or stagger, and no two in a crowd walk alike.

The whole game plays on a controller, menus included: a stick-driven cursor, the camera on the right stick, waves, abilities and the commander on the buttons. Switch between gamepad and mouse at any moment.

What is in the game

Features

30 maps, 150 stars

A world map of 30 battlefields, from a palace metro under the city and a lakeside town where a whole year passes in one battle to the bio-lab valley where the virus began, a lit-up night-time amusement park, a cosmodrome where a rocket launch burns the road and a stadium under the floodlights; three stars each, plus heroic and iron challenges.

24 defenses

Miniguns, Tesla coils, railguns, a Gauss cannon, the Pantsir and the super-heavy Tsar Cannon, each with two upgrade branches.

68 enemy types

Motion-captured zombies, armour, attack helicopters, air raids, zombie beasts, marauders, a mercenary army with armoured Humvees, fire-breathing dragons, and 16 bosses up to 50-metre colossi.

10 abilities

Airstrike, lightning, nuke, B-52 carpet bombing, a B-2 Spirit cluster strike over every road, an EMP wave and more.

Spec-ops squad

The commander in spec-ops gear aims his rifle at the horde and leads three soldiers; a fallen one is replaced from the base. He answers your orders aloud.

Eight ways to play

A 35-wave campaign, Endless, Horde (1,000+ zombies a wave), Run (a roguelike with card picks), Heroic, Iron, Evacuation and Last Bastion (one life, a horde that grows every wave), plus daily and weekly challenges.

Tech tree

36 research steps in six branches between battles, plus ability, base and defense upgrades, achievements and paint schemes.

A living battlefield

Day and night during the battle, storms and blizzards, a blood moon, destructible buildings, survivors to evacuate by helicopter.

Story and seasons

A comic before each map and HQ radio calls in battle, voiced in 14 languages; on Maple Lake a thunderstorm, autumn, winter and summer pass in a single battle.

Map editor

Draw roads, place build pads and 61 objects, pick the ground and the light, and play your own maps.

Made for streams

Streamer mode: the Twitch chat votes 1, 2 or 3 on events during the waves. Plus an HQ with your arsenal and a trophy hall.

Runs well

AMD FSR upscaling with frame generation or Unreal TSR, a low-end PC mode, ultrawide screens, 60 to 180 Hz.

3:25 · 1080p · English, Russian subtitles
